Dalmanites purduei

This picture is of a cast of a trilobite found in Tennessee. It is stored at the Cincinnati Museum. The original fossil must have been 20 cm in length. The label called it Dalamanites cf. purduei from the Ross Limestone member. It existed in the Lower Devonian Period.

Dalmanites selenurus

A Dalmanites selenurus from the Waldron Shale. It is was possibly found in Waldron, Indiana.

Dalmanites Trilobite

This trilobite fossil is a very nice specimen with the little scoop off the cephalon and the spine off the pygidium. It appears to be a Dalmanites sp. maybe from the Silurian Period.

Silurian Dalmanites Trilobite Fragments

At one time in the Louisville, Kentucky area there lived some very large Silurian Period trilobites. Here are some fragments that were found that were just the back pieces. They are almost 4 cm wide so the entire trilobite was huge compared to Devonian Period Phacops and Ordovician Period Flexicalymene pieces we find. The only other trilobite in this area that may have been larger was the Ordovician Period Isotelus.

These fragments were found in Jefferson County, Kentucky in the Louisville Limestone. These are probably Silurian Period Dalmanites.

Dalmanites Trilobite Shell

School has been keeping me very busy in recent weeks but I did get a chance to hunt for Silurian fossils the other day. Somewhere there is a Dalmanites trilobite layer in the Louisville limestone layer in Louisville, Kentucky. The rock I found was part of that layer.

I was lucky enough to find this shell fragment instead of an imprint.

The same rock contained some more shell fragments and a larger imprint of the thorax(?).

Another part of the rock contained this imprint. So all in all the rock had evidence of maybe four Dalmanites trilobites.

Here is an interesting link to someone in Indiana that has found some very nice trilobite fossils. He claims his fossil "the best Dalmanites ever to be found in the Waldron Shale Formation."
