Petrified Wood Fossil Suiseki 水石

Arizona Petrified Wood Fossil

While visiting the Arizona Historical Society Museum at Papago Park (1300 N. College Ave, Tempe Arizona 85281) I saw fossil specimen (AHS-NH#13056) from Navajo County, Arizona USA. It is petrified wood. This plant existed in the Upper or Late Triassic Period. There are some really beautiful colors in this piece. The display is located right in the front entrance lobby as of October 2014.

Woodworthia arizonica Fossil

While touring the Natural History section of the Arizona Historical Society Museum at Papago Park (1300 N. College Ave, Tempe Arizona 85281) I saw fossil specimen (AHS-NH#11646) from Chinle Formation of Holbrook, Navajo County, Arizona USA. It is a Woodworthia arizonica Jeffrey 1910 tree fossil. This plant existed in the Upper or Late Triassic Period.

Devonian Period Plants

Devonian Period (about 416 to 359 million years ago) plants found in the New Albany Shale. These fossils are on display at the Indiana State Museum.


This first two fossil images are of a Callixylon newberryi trunk fossil.  More than likely the tree trunk floated into an area of Indiana and then sank.  Over time the trunk became fossilized.

 

These last two images are of what might be a Calamites in the New Albany Shale.  The Calamites has a relative alive today referred to as Horsetails.

 

 

Indiana Devonian Wood

Devonian wood pieces probably from a Callixylon log. They were found in New Albany Shale in Clark County, Indiana. The wood has been coalified or vitrinized by heat and pressure over time.

Here is another sample of a fossil KYANA was selling to raise money for the education fund during the Fossil Festival at the Falls of the Ohio State Park.

The festival allowed us to raise money and also provide very low cost teaching aides to teachers and helped children and adults learn more about fossils from the world around us.

This fossil is of petrified wood from somewhere in Utah.
