Tylosaurus proriger Mosasaur Fossil

This image is of Tylosaurus proriger mosasaur skull fossil on display at Mace Brown Museum of Natural History (August 2017). It dates to the Campanian Age (about 85 million years ago), Late Cretaceous Period. The fossil was found in the Niobrara Formation, Kansas, USA.

Xiphactinus Sword Ray Fin Fossil Cast

This is a cast of sword ray pectoral fin of a Xiphactinus audax. It was collected by M. Triebold in 1993 at Lane County Kansas USA. Fossil dates to the Late Cretaceous Period (85 million years ago).

Fossil on display at American Museum of Natural History in New York City USA as of July 2018.

Toxochelys latiremis Sea Turtle Fossil

The sea turtle fossil pictured is a Toxochelys latiremis found in the Pierre Shale Formation of Kansas, USA.  This area was part of the Western Interior Seaway that divided what is today North America into two land masses. It dates back 75 million years ago (Upper Cretaceous Period).

The fossil is part of the Cincinnati Museum Center collection (accession number VP6947). It was gift to the museum from Jerome "Pete" Bussen.

Inoceramus Mega-Blister Pearl Fossil

Inoceramus sp. mega-blister pearl fossil found in the Niobrara formation of Gove County, Kansas. The extinct oyster that produced this beauty lived in the upper Cretaceous Period (about 89 million years ago). Thanks to Mark Palatas for letting me photograph it.

Uintacrinus socialis Crinoids

This is an amazing plate showing the fossilized remains of Uintacrinus socialis crinoids.  Picture taken at the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History in Washington, D.C. in 2010.  Creatures lived in the Cretaceous Period in what is now known as Kansas.

The display described the arms of this crinoid could grow to a meter in length.

UPDATE: Mosasaur fossils on display at the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History in 2010. The skull fossil is a Clidastes liodontus and the full fossil is Tylosaurus proriger both from Kansas of the Late Cretaceous (80-70 mya).

Alethopteris - Pennsylvanian Plant

This fossil is not from the Louisville area but I think my cousin bought it at the Falls of the Ohio fossil festival (http://www.fallsoftheohio.org/fossil_festival.shtml) which is in the Louisville area.

According to its label, it is a Alethopteris from the Pennsylvanian Period. It was found in the Strangter formation in Ottawa, Kansas.
