Pleuroceras spinatum Ammonites

These pyrite fossils are Pleuroceras spinatum found in the Lower Lias formation of Untersturmig, Germany. These creatures swam around in the Jurassic period (200-145 million years ago). The scale in the second image is in inches. Thanks Mark Palatas for allowing me to photograph it.

Productus punctatus Crinoid

The identification of this crinoid calyx I am not so sure about.  The illustration was created by J. C. McConnell for the 1881 11th Annual Report of  Indiana Department of Geology and Natural History  John Collett, State Geologist, 1881.  It is on plate 42 and from the coal measure strata of Newport, Indiana.  The crinoid is identified as Productus punctatus.



The next two pictures are of a Misissippian Period fossil that somewhat matches the drawing. It was found in the Indiana Springs formation of Crawford County, Indiana.

Crania Silurian Brachiopod Holdfast

This Eucalyptocrinus crassus crinoid calyx bears the remnants of a Crania sp. brachiopod.  These brachopods existed in the Middle Silurian Period and their fossils can found in the Waldron Shale of Indiana. These brachiopods tended to attach to dead crinoids and brachiopods.

The next picture is an illustration of four holdfasts of the Crania siluriana brachiopod. The illustration shown was drawn by J.C. McConnell and can be found on Plate 21, Figure 6 of the Indiana Department of Geology and Natural History (Eleventh Annual Report) John Collett, State Geologist, 1881.
