Favosites Tabulate Coral Fossil

These images are of what appears to be a Favosites discoideus (Roemer) tabulate coral with pyrite. Fossil dates to the Middle Silurian Period. It was found in the Waldron Shale of Clark County Indiana USA.

Aulocystis Encrusting a Favosites Coral Fossil

This fossil is on display at the Falls of the Ohio State Park Interpretive Center. It is thought to be an Aulocystis (?) procumbens tube coral growing on top of a Favosites turbinatus tabulate coral fossil. They existed in the Devonian time period and were found in the Jeffersonville Limestone of Clark County, Indiana, USA.

Very neat specimen put on display in the new exhibit there. If you get chance, try to visit as they have quite a few fossils on display.

Aulocystis frutectosa Coral

This tabulate "tube" coral was from the Middle Devonian Period. It is called Aulocystis frutectosa and was found in the Beechwood Limestone found in Clark County, Indiana.

Syringopora perelegans tabulate coral and Heliophyllum

These pictures were taken at GeoFair 2009 in Cincinnati, Ohio of fossils in the winning display case.

The first picture is out of focus due to lighting conditions. This tabulate coral is called Syringopora perelegans from the Middle Devonian period. It was found in the Jeffersonville Limestone located in Jefferson County, Kentucky.



This second picture is in bad condition but I decided to post it anyway. It is a lot of smaller horn corals budding out of a larger horn coral. I have found ones with just one emerging but this one seems to have 9 coming out of it. It is a Heliophyllum sp. from the Middle Devonian period. It was found in the Jeffersonville Limestone from Jefferson County, Kentucky (Louisville).
