Trimerus delphinocephalus Trilobite Eye Fossil

This Trimerus delphinocephalus (Green, 1832) trilobite fossil was found this month. The first picture is a close up of its complex eye.

Fossil was found in the Waldron Shale of Clark County, Indiana, USA. It dates to about 419 million years ago which is the Silurian Period. Thanks to Kenny for the images.

 

Cheirarus dilatatus Trilobite Fossil

This post is of a trilobite cephalon fossil called Cheirarus dilatatus (Raymond, 1916). Fossil was found in the Waldron Shale of Clark County Indiana USA. It dates to the Silurian Period.

Fossil on display at Falls of the Ohio Interpretative Center Clarksville Indiana USA as of December 2022.

Acidaspis Trilobite Fossil Fragment

These images show what appears to be the front part of a cephalon of an Acidaspis trilobite fossil. It was found in the Kope Formation of Carroll County, Kentucky USA. The fossil was photographed under 40 magnification of a microscope and is approximately 1.3 mm long. This fossil dates to the Ordovician Period.

This next image is of the same fossil when it was wet.

This last image is of the fossil in the matrix. It is located next to a cephalon fragment of a Cryptolithus trilobite fossil. My personal experience is the matrix from the Kope Formation is best hunted under the microscope. This small world yields a diverse graveyard of sea creature that once roamed an ancient earth.

Cryptolithus tessellates Trilobite Head Plate

This picture shows what appears to be an upside down Cryptolithus tessellates trilobite head plate fossil. It was found in the Kope Formation (Eden Group) of Carroll County, Kentucky, USA. It dates to the Ordovician Period. Thanks to Kenny for cleaning out the inverted head plate section with a dental tool.

3D Dalmanites Trilobite Cephalon

This Dalmanites sp. trilobite cephalon fossil was found in the Waldron Shale of Indiana, USA. This trilobite existed in the Silurian Period about 420 million years ago. Thanks to Kenny for the picture.

Bumastus Trilobite Cephalon

 Here is a nice fossil that was embedded in quite a bit of hard Waldron Shale. My cousin using an air scribe coaxed it out into the public view after about two hours of work. The trilobite cephalon is a species of the genus Bumastus.  The limestone layer it was found in dates to the Silurian period or about 420 million years ago.
