Stigmaria Fossil

Stigmaria ficoides? plant fossil found in Hazard, Kentucky. Fossil root of some sort of lycopsid tree. The plant grew in the Middle? Pennsylvanian Period in the Breathitt Group.

This fossil is interesting in that it can be split apart and inner root details can be seen.

Surface pattern up close view.  Thanks to Herb for letting me photograph his fossil.

How many Lycopod/Stigmaria Fossils are in your collection? What are the sizes of them?

I do not have many specimens.

My friends have a lot more fossils like the one shown in this post though. If you are interested in buying some fossils like this, they might sell some of their collection.

E-mail me at louisvillefossils@gmail.com for more information.
