Favosites biloculi?

This coral was found in the Jeffersonville Limestone of Jefferson County, Kentucky.  It is thought to be a Favosites biloculi? coral dated to Middle Devonian Period.  The book Silurian and Devonian Corals of the Falls of the Ohio (Stumm, 1964) was used to identify this specimen.  Description on page 62 and plate 61, figures 15-17.  Fossil originally called Favosites perplexa by Clapp in 1847 and renamed by Hall in 1876.

Louisville Area Devonian Brachiopods

The brachiopod shown is a Spirifera vericosa. Pictures in this posting show a selection of brachiopods from the Middle Devonian Period found around the Louisville, Kentucky area.  The next picture is of a rare find the Cupularostrum tethys brachiopod.  This selection of brachiopod fossils are for sale at a low price on eBay LINK HERE.

Favosites proximatus?

This beautiful coral with its circular chambers (corallites) surrounded by different polygons (trigonal, tetragonal, or pentagonal) was found in the Jeffersonville Limestone of Jefferson County, Kentucky.  It is thought to be a Favosites proximatus? coral.  The book Silurian and Devonian Corals of the Falls of the Ohio (Stumm, 1964) was used to identify this specimen.  Description on page 64 and plate 61, figures 7-9.  Fossil originally called Favosites proximus by Davis in 1887 and renamed by Stumm in 1950.
