Isotelus Trilobite Fossil Fragment

Here is an Isotelus trilobite fragment found in eastern Jefferson County, Kentucky (not far from Louisville). It was found in the Drakes formation along a road cut. The fragment is about 1 cm wide and 3 cm long. This creature existed in the Ordovician period.

Sponge Hindia sphaeroidalis

This porifera or sponge is probably a Devonian period Hindia sphaeroidalis that was embedded in a chert nodule. The odd thing is most references to this sponge are Ordovician but I guess it survived into the Devonian. This sponge was found in the Louisville, Kentucky and must be from the Jeffersonville Limestone.

Crassiproteus crassimarginatus Trilobite

This picture was taken at the GeoFair 2009 of a fossil in the winning display case located at Cincinnati, Ohio.

This trilobite mold is called Crassiproteus crassimarginatus from the Middle Devonian period. It was found in the Jeffersonville Limestone found in Oldham County, Kentucky (east of Louisville).
