Phacops rana Trilobite aka Eldredgeops

Here is one of the largest Phacops rana trilobite molts I have found. It is about 4 cm wide. It is quite broken up and has piece of bryozoan stem sticking through it.

It was found in Clark County, Indiana (across the Ohio River from Louisville, Kentucky) in the North Vernon Formation. This creature existed in the Devonian Period.

I keep getting announcements for events to post. Just as well, my school work is really picking up as large projects are coming due. So my every day posts might stop for a while or will just be an unlabeled picture. No collecting time either and the springs rains have shown up in the Ohio River Valley to help reveal hidden fossils.

If you get a chance check out the Rock Gem and Mineral Show in Irvine, Kentucky which will be part of the Mountain Mushroom Festival. The event takes place on the weekend of April 24-26, 2009.

I believe the area is known for their Kentucky agates but they will have minerals, jewelry and fossils for sale as well.

The Bluegrass Gem & Mineral Club is co-sponsoring it.
