Tyrannosaurus rex dinosaur fossil ("tyrant reptile") displayed at the American Museum of Natural History in
New York City, USA. It was found in 1908 at Big Dry Creek Montana, USA by B. Brown and K. C. Kaisen. The fossil dates to the Late Cretaceous Period (65 million years ago). This fossil is one of the few real ones on display in the world.
Why do you say few? Few T-rex? Many fossils of dinosaurs in museums on display are at least partially real. Other fossils, like trilobites, brachiopods, etc, are 100% real.
Good point, I did not clarify in the post. This T. rex fossil was authentic and not a cast or mostly reconstructed pieces. While most invertebrate fossils are 100%, there are some casts and ones that have had re-work done. See this posting showing trilobite casts: http://louisvillefossils.blogspot.com/2010/11/dry-dredgers-november-meeting.html
