Unidentified Trace Fossil


This picture is of what appears to be tunnels a creature(s) once made on the sea floor (trace fossils). The plate was found in the Indian Springs Formation of Crawford County, Indiana USA. Rock dates to the Mississippian Period.

Blastoid with Long Stem + Unidentified Crinoid?

These pictures show recent fossil finds in the Indian Springs Formation of Crawford County Indiana USA. The fossils date to the Mississippian Period. This fossil shown on the top is a Pentremites sp. blastoid with quite a long stem. The end of the stem has quite a few little stubs where the hold fast roots once were to anchor it to the seabed.
 This last picture is a close up of an unidentified crinoid calyx.

Calcirhynchia Brachiopod Fossil


This picture is of the Calcirhynchia calcaria brachiopod fossil. It was found in the Blue Lias, Seven Rock Point (Copper Shales) of Lyme Regis England. The fossils date back to the Lower Jurassic Period.

Marston Magna 'Marble' of England


This image is of a ammonite fossil plate. Ammonites seen in this plate are Promicrocerus planicosta (J Sowerby and Asteroceras smithi (J de Sowerby). It was found in Obtusum beds of the Lower Lias of Marston Magna near Yeovil England. This layer is rarely exposed except for in streambeds and when well shafts are dug. These ammonites existed during the Lower Jurassic Period. This stone was part of the collection of James of Charmouth, a 19th century geologist.

Nashville Tennessee Coral Fossil


My father found this fossil in Nashville, Tennessee. It appears to be Plasmopora sp. coral fossil. The time period would be Silurian. This website http://tennesseefossils.com/Geology05.php lists formations in that area as Decatur and Brownsport.

Saint-Malo Beach France


Today, I will not post fossils but images of shells that might one day be fossils. These pictures were taken in August 2016 at Saint-Malo France. A lot of limpet shells can be found, they appear to be Patella vulgata. Also small striped snail shells that might some type of Gibbula umbilicalis?
