Blue Fossils of Lake Cumberland Kentucky

The fossils of Lake Cumberland, Kentucky that have a blue color. Three of these pictures have blue crinoid stem pieces and the fourth is part of blue brachiopod shell.

I need to find a source to describe maybe what species these are and why they are this blue color.

  1. Looks like Blue Chalcedony (quartz)to me from the lack of a fracture or cleavage pattern on the end of your crinoid stem. Very nice preservant and if the rest of the rock is still carbonate then you might be able to etch the fossil out with acid.

  2. I had not thought of treating this fossil with acid. Thanks for the suggestion.

I will research blue chalcedony and see if one else has found it around Lake Cumberland, Kentucky.
