Parasites on Crinoid Fossil?
These images are quite interesting in that they show possible parasites or byrozoans on a crinoid stem fossil. These fossil was found in Scott County Indiana in the New Providence Formation. It dates to the Mississippian Period.
These might be something like the Wooster College paleontologists found on Jurassic crinoid stems: http://woostergeologists.scotblogs.wooster.edu/2014/11/14/woosters-fossils-of-the-week-a-new-crinoid-species-from-the-middle-jurassic-of-southern-israel-with-a-bonus-parasitic-infection/

Merry Christmas 2015
If you are viewing this blog I wish you a Merry Christmas. I hope 2016 brings you many good fossil finds.
This year's design features four fossils. They were all found in Grayson County Kentucky USA. Three different crinoid fossils were used for the tree trunk, ornaments and star. The tree body was a horn coral. I do not know their names but they are from the Mississippian Period (Carboniferous).

Origins of Life Video
I watched a promo video from the U.K.'s Natural History Museum in London for David Attenborough's First Life. They have some great Cambrian creature animations in this. After searching around YouTube a bit I found that they belonged to a 2010 Atlantic Productions documentary called First Life. Found on YouTube here:

Animated Ammonite
Still playing the Jurassic World game on my phones. The ludia company has opened up the the aquatic park which has creatures I actually started playing the game for in the first place to see. Very nice animations and this post shows some of the images of the ammonite. It is odd that most of the creatures on land or in the air have genus names but they when with a very generic name ammonite for this creature.
Here is an embed of a short 2 minute animation of this creature on YouTube.

50 Year Anniversary of Devonian Fossil Fish Find in Cleveland
The Cleveland Museum of Natural History is celebrating the 50th anniversary of the start of excavating fossil fishes from their area. In 1965 construction to create I-71 road connecting downtown Cleveland with its southwestern suburbs revealed a treasure trove of Devonian fossils.
The animals fossilized after their remains sank to the ocean bottom and settled in to the sediment that would turn into the Cleveland Shale. The team worked on extracting fossils and shale from the project till 1968. Animals like the Cladoelache shark and Dunkelosteous arthrodire where found there.
See pictures and read more about it at the Cleveland Plain Dealer site http://www.cleveland.com/metro/index.ssf/2015/10/cleveland_museum_of_natural_hi_5.html
