Conularia From Louisville, Kentucky

Here is a Conularia fossil my cousin found in southern Jefferson County, Kentucky near the city of Louisville. It is from the Mississippian or Carboniferous Period. Found in the Borden Formation.

Very nice! It's hard to tell from the angle of the photo, but it looks like it has the cover "flaps" (operculum??) still covering the aperture. Does it?

I think that is just matrix left over from the nodule that Conularia fossil was encased in.

It might be cleaned at a future date to determine if there is more to it.

Check out the September 6, 2009 post about French Conularia. What is interesting are the drawings on the poster of what a live Conularia might have looked like.
